Elizabeth A. Close, Esq.Associate Attorney
Attorney Elizabeth A. Close joined Scaringi Law as an Associate Attorney in April of 2021 and brought her many years of experience as a former prosecutor and public defender to our criminal defense and family law practice. She is based in our Harrisburg Office and represents clients throughout Central Pennsylvania.
Attorney Close puts her experience as a former prosecutor to good use defending her clients in felony and misdemeanor cases of every kind including among others Attempted Homicide, Aggravated Assault, Robbery, Burglary, Sexual Assault, Rape, Felony Drug charges (PWI), Firearm offenses (Misdemeanor and Felony). As a former prosecutor, Attorney Close knows where to look for weaknesses in the prosecution’s case and knows what issues to pursue in presenting a vigorous defense. Having negotiated hundreds of agreements on behalf of the Commonwealth, Attorney Close knows how to arrange for and obtain favorable plea agreements for those of her clients who do not wish to go to trial. Attorney Close provides vigorous and effective representation to her criminal defense clients. She also represents juveniles involved in juvenile dependency and delinquency cases and alleged perpetrators of child abuse. Here she not only puts her years as a prosecutor and public defender to use but also her tenure with Children and Youth Services.
With several years of daily court appearances handling very serious cases, Attorney Close’s deep and heavy litigation experience is the right kind of experience family law clients need for their contested cases. Family law cases, including divorce, support, custody, Protection From Abuse, Children and Youth Services, can become hotly contested very quickly. Although Attorney Close will work with the opposing counsel or opposing party to try to amicably resolve her family law cases, she can also go right into court to defend and advocate for the rights of her clients. Family law clients are well served to have a proven litigator advocating for them at the negotiating table and in court.
Before joining Scaringi Law, Attorney Close served as Assistant District Attorney in the Lebanon County District Attorney’s office. There she managed a high-volume caseload of misdemeanor and felony cases from the preliminary hearing through trial and sentencing. She prosecuted six criminal trials to guilty verdicts obtaining a 100% conviction rate. She litigated jury trials, bench trials, motions hearings, pretrial matters, guilty pleas, and sentencing. She also interviewed and advised law enforcement officers, victims, and witnesses regarding prospective and active criminal cases, as well as researched, prepared, and filed motions, memos, and briefs including Pennsylvania Superior Court Briefs. During her tenure with the Lebanon County DA’s office, Attorney Close developed deep experience in domestic violence cases.
Before she became a prosecutor, Attorney Close spent four years as an Assistant Public Defender in the Dauphin County Public Defender’s Office. There she handled a high volume of defense cases including litigating felony jury trials. She learned how to put together the nuts and bolts of an effective defense, how to work successfully with her clients, with victims, and with police officers and prosecutors prosecuting the cases. She worked hard to represent the best interests of her clients. She was able to obtain creative and favorable plea agreements when appropriate but was not afraid to put the Commonwealth to its burden of proof and take her clients to trial. As Public Defender, Attorney Close was assigned to the Veteran’s Court Treatment Program, during which time she developed an in-depth understanding of the Drug Treatment Court and Veterans’ Court. She served as the Public Defender liaison to the Veterans’ Court for a 2-year before leaving the office.
