Associate Attorney

Attorney Erin Zimmerer joined Scaringi Law in April of 2016. She offers our clients extensive experience in Local and Federal Criminal Defense, as well as Family Law, including Divorce, Child Custody, Support, and Visitation. Additionally, she focuses her practice on Litigation, Appeals, Traffic Violations, and DUI.

Attorney Zimmerer’s Federal Criminal Defense expertise began in 2004. She has handled cases ranging from Homicide to Drug charges in Common Pleas Courts, in nearly a third of Pennsylvania’s counties. As much as 30 percent of Zimmerer’s Criminal Defense work has been in Federal Court, where U.S. prosecutors are known to have a notoriously high bar in bringing charges.

Attorney Zimmerer notes, that when it comes to Federal Court, “Everyone is presumed innocent, but if they are charging you, they have something. And if the Feds are charging you, they’ve really got something.

As a private practice attorney, Zimmerer has served four 3-year appointments as a U.S. Middle District of Pennsylvania Criminal Justice Act Panel attorney, serving clients through the Federal Community Defender Program. She has a well-earned reputation as a tireless advocate, relentless interrogator, and formidable courtroom tactician for her clients.

Highlights of Attorney Zimmerer’s Federal Criminal Defense work include representing one of a dozen clients in a ten-week Racketeering Trial in U.S. Middle District Court. This was a proceeding so legally complicated that it encompassed some 35,000 pages of Discovery. The trial stands as one of the largest and longest in Middle District Court history.

Erin Zimmerer, Esq., has also led the defense in federal cases of Illegal Immigration, Racketeering, Narcotics and Child Pornography. Over her many years of Federal Court experience, Zimmerer has forged an effective working relationship with U.S. prosecutors and federal judges, establishing a comfort level and trust on both sides. These professional relationships can be extremely valuable in plea agreement negotiations.

Attorney Zimmerer’s goal in every criminal case is to assist clients in overcoming one of the worst experiences of their lives, by providing an aggressive legal defense, while communicating all available options. Clients become active participants in their defense during every step of the process, whether the eventual outcome is a carefully-negotiated plea agreement or a criminal trial. She believes everyone who makes a mistake is entitled to an excellent legal defense, and her main role in defending criminal law clients is to mitigate the consequences so that they can move on with their lives as quickly as possible.

In her equally extensive practice of Family Law, Attorney Zimmerer helps clients move on with their lives after a difficult situation, namely, an ended relationship. Emotion, pain, and even vengeance can cloud facts and the letter of the law. Regardless, Zimmerer remains committed to assisting family law clients through both sets of hurdles – the legal and emotional. Zimmerer does this by focusing on what is often most important to both parties when a marriage or relationship ends: their children. Often, the first accommodation that must be made, is deciding how separated parents will care for their children and jointly provide for their best interests. This common goal can unite the aims of both parents, helping them rise above petty emotions and base motivations that can bog down divorces.

Attorney Erin Zimmerer’s tools include formidable patience and abundant, clear, honest communication, that provide her clients with a detailed set of facts regarding their specific situation, while illustrating every legal option and scenario.

Attorney Zimmerer’s satisfaction comes from assisting clients through the most emotional event in their lives by achieving the best possible outcome that serves the best interests of their children while enabling the parents to move on with separate lives.

Most recently, Erin Zimmerer, Esq. worked as a General Practice Attorney for the firm of Montgomery & Zimmerer in Manheim, PA, where she managed a full caseload in Family Law, Criminal Defense, and Federal Criminal Defense.

Previously, Attorney Zimmerer practiced Criminal Defense law at the firm of McShane & Hitchings in Harrisburg, PA. Prior to that, she clerked for the Honorable James P. Cullen, Judge, in Lancaster, PA.

Attorney Zimmerer received her Juris Doctorate in 2003 from Widener University School of Law, Harrisburg, and her Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Economics in 1996 from Wilson College, in Chambersburg, PA.

Erin Zimmerer, Esq. is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Middle District of Pennsylvania, the U.S. Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the U.S. Third Circuit Court, and in Pennsylvania.

Attorney Zimmerer is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar, Lancaster County Bar, and Lebanon County Bar Associations.

What I like most about being an attorney is that I know my work could change someone’s life for the better.

When I meet a client, I like to talk with them first about their personal history, it helps them to relax. It is important that a client feels comfortable with me as their attorney. They will have to tell me things that they may not normally share with anyone. I let my clients speak, and I take notes. I prefer not to interrupt them, so they feel more comfortable sharing with me, and they know I am listening to them, not just looking for certain facts.

I best serve my clients by being "there" for them. I make sure they understand that I do not judge them or their situation. Everyone has issues in their life and they need to feel comfortable with their attorney to achieve the best outcome. I also make sure my clients know that they come first. I may be friendly with another attorney, but I am not that attorney’s friend. I am strictly there to do what I need to do help my client.

A little about me? I skipped my senior year of high school and went to college early. I married in 1996. I like animals. I like to read and travel. I go to classic car shows, and own a 1961 Corvette, a 1960 Chevy Bel Air, and a 1971 Chevelle.
