Attorney Joseph R. D’Annunzio joined Scaringi Law in 2020. He is based in our Newport Office and brings over 43 years of legal experience. Attorney D’Annunzio heads up Scaringi Law’s personal injury and automobile law section and also practices in family law, criminal defense and civil litigation.
Attorney D’Annunzio has over 22-years-experience defending insureds and insurance companies against injured parties who brought claims seeking money damages. This extensive experience on the defense side is invaluable to individuals who have been injured in accidents and are now seeking compensation and the vindication of their rights in court. Attorney D’Annunzio knows how insurance companies defend against personal injury and automobile cases, knows how they decide upon settlement amounts and knows the important factors in convincing an insurance company to settle a case. Attorney D’Annunzio has 22-years of inside knowledge about every aspect of how an insurance company defends against these claims. This is one of the many reasons why injured parties are well-advised to retain Attorney D’Annunzio to represent them.
Prior to joining Scaringi Law, Attorney D’Annunzio managed the Central Pennsylvania trial division of GEICO, one of America’s largest automobile insurance carriers. In this position, Attorney D’Annunzio handled all cases filed against GEICO and/or its insured parties in twenty-one counties in Central Pennsylvania. Attorney D’Annunzio consistently won awards for most cases tried among national offices. Prior to that position, Attorney D’Annunzio served as Managing Attorney for Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company in Philadelphia. There he supervised nine trial attorneys performing insurance defense work while maintaining a full case load. Prior to that position, he served as Senior Litigation Attorney at St. Paul Fire & Marine Insurance Company, in Conshohocken, PA, also doing insurance defense work.
Attorney D’Annunzio was born and raised in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. He attended local schools and La Salle University. He returned to his home town after graduating law school, and he opened a general practice. As the “neighborhood lawyer” he represented client during which he practiced in criminal defense, family law and general civil law and litigation. He also served for ten years as a public defender in which he handled every type of criminal cases from summary traffic matters to felony crimes. Attorney D’Annunzio also has experience handling mental health commitments under the Mental Health Procedures Act. At different times he has represented both the individuals being committed and mental health facilities in matters seeking commitment of individuals under sections 302, 303, 304 and 305 of the Pennsylvania Mental Health Procedures Act. This experience, in prosecuting mental health commitments, is invaluable to individuals who wish to defend against these commitments, appeal them or have them expunged.
As part of his private practice Attorney D’Annunzio was selected to serve as the Solicitor to the Plymouth Township Zoning Hearing Bord and to the Plymouth Township Civil Service Commission.
Attorney D’Annunzio has represented the buyers in the purchase of homes as part of his general law practice. He served as Solicitor to the Montgomery County Funeral Directors Association.
For six years the Pennsylvania Supreme Court selected Attorney D’Annunzio to serve first as a hearing member then as Chairman of Committee 2.06 of the Disciplinary Board. The Board heard and decided cases regarding reported attorney misconduct.
Attorney D’Annunzio was an Adjunct Instructor at Gwynedd Mercy College and at Messiah University where he taught courses in Business Law and in Sports Law.
